New Year’s Resolutions for your Business

To help you maximise your business’ potential in the New Year, here are five tips which will hopefully help to make 2019 your best year yet:

Tip # 1 – Get organised and reduce risk If this was not a priority at the end of last year, it should be your priority now. Make sure your desk is clean, and your desktop is organised. It is a good time to arrange and file away documents according to year, and shred anything no longer required. And clean up that inbox, an overflowing inbox can be one of the greatest sources of stress at work. Review your processes and procedures and where you may be exposed to the most of amount of risk. An examination of your exposure to risk (big and small) can help you set goals.

Tip # 2 –  Don’t just make do with what you have, invest in new technology Has there been that piece of equipment in your office interfering with your productivity, or making your work life harder? Stop putting off the inevitable and upgrade that technology. Think hard about what will most benefit your business, and realise the benefits of investing now. Your business will be more efficient and you and your employees will be thankful in the long run.

Tip # 3 – Make business planning a weekly ritual Make this meeting something for you and your colleagues to look forward to. Whether you meet out of the office, or have something delicious delivered, heading into these meetings with a positive frame of mind can only contribute to great new ideas. Business planning allows you to take stock of what has been working, what hasn’t, and helps to set new direction for the business. By meeting every week for this purpose, you will ensure that your long and short term plans remain dynamic and adjust to any developments in your business or networks. It also creates an opportunity to stick to your goals, unlike some other New Year’s resolutions!

Tip # 4 –Develop a promotions and networking calendar Sit down to review your calendar and allocate dates and holidays which you want to build promotions around. This will allow you to start planning and developing advertising campaigns, promotions, blog posts and social media updates. In that same calendar, designate time for networking and developing new business relationships.

Tip # 5 – Learn to delegate, and delegate Running a business can be all-consuming, and it is an easy trap to fall into thinking you can cover off on everything yourself. Let someone else help you where they can. This can be the key to a healthy work-life balance, and will allow you to invest some time in yourself, as well as the business.
